Nifty Holds 8000 Mark, Small-Caps Slip

The Indian markets continued with the profit booking scenario. In today’s session, mid-cap and small-cap indices came below its major support levels, followed by Capital Goods, Bankex and Consumer Durables, which also closed in the negative territory. As a result, the Nifty closed down by 15 points at 8002 and Sensex was down by 31 points at 26744 in the closing bell.

The advance-decline ratio on NSE was on the negative side, as the day ended with 1322 shares in green and 2315 shares in the red zone.

Top Nifty Gainers: Coal India gained 4.8% in today’s trade, followed by HUL, Cipla, DLF and ITC.

Top Nifty Losers: Jindal Steel closed the day lower by 10.15%, followed by PNB, Tata Steel, SBI and Bank of Baroda.

Most of the sectoral indices closed on a negative note. The indices like Capital Goods and Bankex continued with the down move of around 200 points each. Consumer Durables, Mid-Caps and Small-Caps were down around 150 points each. While Auto and Metals also closed in negative note. However FMCG and Health Care closed in the green mark, up by 132 points and 74 points respectively.

Most of the Asian markets had a positive session on the bourses today and ended the day in the upward territory. The Hang Seng market saw up move by 84 points, while Taiwan and KOSPI also closed on a positive note. However the Nikkei market closed down by 38 points.     

Buzzer: Jindal Steel was down by more than 10% on the bourses today and closed down at the technical level around Rs 189. If the stock opens below this level, it may touch Rs 170/155 mark in the next few sessions.

The Nifty Future broke the major support level which was at 7970. But on the closing basis, it sustained above 8000 level, indicating vital supports on lower levels.
