Indices Reclaim, Health Care Surges

Indian markets witnessed some recovery from the mid-session today. The positive sentiment came from Health Care and Bankex sectors. Some buying was also seen in small-caps, capital goods and consumer durables. As a result the Nifty closed up by 35 points at 8027 and Sensex was up by 127 points at 26880 in the closing bell.

The advance-decline ratio on NSE was positive, as the day ended with 1886 shares in green and 1778 shares in the red zone.

Top Nifty Gainers: Sun Pharma gained 4.15% in today’s trade, followed by Cipla, Tata Power, BPCL and SBI.

Top Nifty Losers: Lupin closed the day lower by 2.56%, followed by Bharti Airtel, Hero Motocorp, Jindal Steel and PNB.

Most of the sectoral indices were positive in today’s session. Health Care and Bankex provided good support to the indices, and were up by 197 points and 124 points respectively. Small-caps, capital goods and consumer durable stocks were up by around 80 points each. Auto, IT and mid-caps also closed in the positive territory. However Oil & Gas, Metals closed on a nominally negative note.    

The Asian markets also had a negative session on the bourses today. The Nikkei market saw down move by 58 points, while Straits Times also closed on a negative note. However the Hang Seng Index closed in the positive territory, up by 377 points. 

Buzzer: Sun Pharma was up by more than 4.15% on the bourses today and closed up at the technical level around Rs 835. If the stock opens above this level, it may touch Rs 850/870 mark in the next few sessions.

Nifty future took support around 7980 level which is the positive indicator for further trade.
