Government Finalizes Smart City Project Consultants For 88 Cities

Ambitious project of PM Narendra Modi the Smart city has got a major push as government has finalized 37 consulting firms to prepare plans for 88 cities across India. What is interesting is that foreign consulting firms came in big numbers to bid for smart city project.

Government has fast tracked the smart city mission and coinciding with the two day Smart City Ideas Camp in New Delhi, as consultants for 88 cities included in the Smart City Mission have been identified. As per government release remaining 10 cities in North-Eastern states and Union Territories will do so by this week end. Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir are still to nominate one city each for smart city development.

As far as consultants goes, CRISIL Risk and Infrastructure Solutions Limited in association with Pri Move Infrastructure Development Consultants Private Ltd and Probity Soft Private Limited has bagged the contract for 6 cities followed by Jones Lang La Salle Property Consultants India Pvt Ltd in association with Townland Consultants Pvt Ltd and Tata Consulting Engineers, ICRA Management Consulting Private Limited in association with NJS Engineers India Private Limited and All India Institute of Local Self-Government for 5 cities each. Importantly foreign companies or their Indian associates are associated with the preparation of smart city plans for most of the cities. 

As per the available information KPMG has been selected for NDMC, NK Buildcon for Varanasi, Lea Associates for Tirupati, ICRA for Ajmer, Data World for Lucknow, Alia Consulting for Greater Mumbai, Jones Lang La Salle for Amritsar, Ecorys Nederland BV for Bhagalpur. CRISIL has bagged Nagpur, kalian-Dombivali, Nasik, Thane, Solapur and Amaravati, all in Maharashtra, while Rajkot, Kochi, Ajmer, Erode and Coimbattore has gone to ICRA. Vadodara, Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Chennai and Tiruchirapalli were bagged by Jones Lang La Salle.
