Small cap index rises to 9-year high; outperforms indices

Before we could see the benchmark indices crossing all-time high, S&P BSE small cap index rose to nine-year high during the market hours on Thursday. There are seven companies which closed with a gain of more than 10 per cent on February 9.

The small cap index gained more than 107.4 points to touch 13,665, the highest level since January 8, 2008, breaching the previous high of 13,619 of November 1, 2016. 

However, the stocks has cooled off from the high it made in the morning, and closed at 13,582.89, gaining 25.29 points at the end of the day. Shares of Venky's, Aptech, RPP infra projects are among the constituents locked in 20 per cent upper circuit at the closing on Thursday trading. 

As per the trend, it has been observed that small-cap outperforms other broader and benchmark indices in the long run, as the constituent grows quicker than other matured and large cap companies.
