Dial P for petrol, D for diesel delivered at your home as Ministry considers a home-delivery proposal

In a move which can revolutionize retail sales of petroleum products, mainly petrol and diesel to drive your cars and two-wheelers, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has started actively considering a proposal to deliver gasoline at your door-step soon. Mentioning the move which may cut down on the time one consumes while waiting for refuelling vehicle at a gasoline centre anywhere in the country due to long queues, the Ministry now headed by Dharmendra Pradhan, tweeted the idea on Friday afternoon which obviously has become now a centrestage of discussions along the length and breadth of the country. The tweets read. "“Options being explored where petro products may be door delivered to consumers on pre booking,” and “This would help consumers avoid spending excessive time and long queues at fuel stations.”

In a later tweet, the Ministry also condemned the burning issue arising out of the decision taken by the petroleum dealers in certain states towards keeping their retail outlets shut on Sundays. The Ministry has been issuing periodic statements since the dealers decided to keep their outlets shut on every Sunday sine mid of May. The active consideration towards home delivery of petrol and diesel has been undertaken by the Ministry only after the dealers rejected the Ministry's request to reconsider their decision on Sunday closure of the petrol pumps.

While the idea of home-delivery of petro products across the country may be a tough one in terms of implementations of the same, this is obvious that the Ministry is trying to break the confidence of those select petroleum dealers in at least eight states who have decided for observing holidays on Sundays. This decision may create some issues and logjam in terms people willing to refuel their vehicles on Sundays in those states and this may even lead to bigger chaos in their petroleum outlets during Friday and Saturday.

While the move by the Ministry is being considered as a desperate but stern one, it has to be seen now how are the Ministry officials plan the implementation of the same. The petroleum dealers who are in favour of Sunday closure, are, however, yet to react on this.
