You decide whether service charge at the eateries should be paid, or not

Issues over paying service charges in the eateries are not ending very soon as it seems at this time the government itself is caught in several hesitations to come up with a stricter deadline while it has already approved a guideline on levying service charge by the eateries across the country.

The guideline says that service charge is totally voluntary. It is no more a mandatory thing as Food and Consumer Affairs Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan said on Friday. According to him, hotels and restaurants will not be able to decide on service charge to be levied on a consumer. The consumer will decide whether to pay service charge or not. But this is not something which has been well appreciated by the consumers.

The column of service charge in a generated bill will have to be left blank so that the consumers can fill it up while making the final payment, as per the new set of rules. If any eatery charge on their own, customers can file a complaint in the Consumer Court.
