Markets Tank, Nifty Below 6000
The Indian markets remained under a selling pressure till closing today. The Nifty ended at 5990, down by 87 points. The Sensex closed at 20,116, down by 185 points. The indices ended in red, down by 1.44% and 1.16% respectively.
The advance–decline ratio ended on the negative side at closing. On the NSE, 1250 shares closed in green, while 2098 shares ended in red.
Top Nifty Gainers: Bharti Airtel closed the day up by 2.2%, followed by TCS, Sun Pharma, Cipla and Bajaj Auto.
Top Nifty Losers: IDFC closed the day down by 8.5%, followed by IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, JP Associates and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Most sectors ended in red. Bankex was the top loser, down by 617 points, followed by Capital Goods and Metals, which were down by 312 points and 180 points respectively. Auto and Oil & Gas also ended on a negative note, down by 130 points and 45 points correspondingly. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps were down by more than 100 points.
The Asian markets closed on a mixed note. The Hang Seng market closed as the top gainer, up by 53 points, followed by KOSPI and Straits Times. However, the Nikkei market ended on a negative note, down by 47 points.
Buzzers: YES Bank announced its Q1FY14 numbers with its net profit up by 38% YoY to Rs 401 crore. However, the stock crashed by 12% made a low at Rs 373.
Nifty closed below the 6000 mark, which is a negative indicator with the expiry day ahead.
