Sensex closes in green; Vodafone Idea zooms by nearly 13 per cent

During the afternoon session on Friday, Sensex was seen in a positive light as Sensex gained by 0.69 per cent or by 223.51 points to settle at 32,424.10 level while Nifty closed in green at 9,580.30 level, up by 0.95 per cent or by 90.20 points.

With concerns growing regarding China's tightening control over Hong Kong leading to increasing US-China tensions, European indices opened in red. FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 traded down by 0.95 per cent, 1.01 per cent and 0.82 per cent respectively. Yet, the domestic markets were not impacted and performed well, thus, highlighting positive investor sentiments.

Various market reports revealed that tech giant Google is considering the purchase of 5 per cent stake in Vodafone Idea, leading to the company's stock rising by nearly 13 per cent, with a jump of over 30 per cent intraday.

Sensex gainers included ONGC gaining by 5.26 per cent, Bajaj Auto rallying by 5.01 per cent, Sun Pharmaceuticals increasing by 3.53 per cent, Nestle gaining by 3.48 per cent, LT increasing by 3.24 per cent, IndusInd Bank rising by 1.68 per cent, ICICI Bank going up by 1.64 per cent, etc.

Amongst the Sensex draggers were Infosys declining by 2.25 per cent, Axis Bank decreasing by 1.96 per cent, Bharti Airtel which fell by 1.83 per cent, TCS decreasing by 1.68 per cent, Titan Company which fell by 1.02 per cent, Mahindra & Mahindra declining by 0.83 per cent, RIL decreasing by 0.51 per cent and Kotak Mahindra Bank which fell by 0.38 per cent.

Amidst the sectoral indices on BSE, BSE Realty was the biggest gainer with a rise of 4.50 per cent. Not too far behind it, BSE Oil & Gas gained by 3.42 per cent and BSE FMCG rallied by 2.89 per cent. On the other hand, BSE IT dropped by 0.97 per cent followed by BSE TECK and BSE Telecom declining by 0.95 per cent and 0.70 per cent respectively. At a broad level, BSE small-cap and mid-cap indices surpassed their previous day position, gaining by 1.14 per cent and 1.90 per cent respectively.
