Gujarat Alkalies re-estimates project cost at Rs 800 crore

Multiproduct chemical company, Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Limited, announced on Friday that its board revised the estimated project cost for its unit in Dahej to Rs 800 crore from the previous estimate of Rs 683 crores.

Previously, the company had stated its goal of setting up a 1,05,000 TPA capacity, chloromethanes plant at Dahej, Gujarat. It has another plant for the same chemical material at Vadodara with a capacity of 56,100 TPA. Over the last five years, the production capacity of chloromethanes has seen a growth of 6.26 per cent from 37,888 MT as of end of FY14 to 51,325 MT in FY19.

Overall, the company has product lines manufacturing chemicals such as caustic soda and group, hydrogen peroxide and chloromethanes group etc. In its FY19 annual report, the company has indicated implementation of 33,870 TPA phosphoric acid plant and 10,000 TPA of hydrazine hydrate plant at Dahej facility, along with this chloromethanes plant.

The company's stock closed at Rs 333.55 on Friday, down by 0.19 per cent on BSE.
