Spice Jet to operate India-UK flights; stock shines

Indian airline, SpiceJet, informed the bourses on Friday that the company has been designated as Indian scheduled carrier to operate on agreed services between India and the UK in accordance with the air services agreement between the Government of India and the Government of the United Kingdom.

This came a day after the company was designated as the Indian scheduled carrier to operate flights between India and the USA. With this, SpiceJet has become the second airline company to operate flights to the US under the air bubble agreement.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, international flights were suspended since March 2020.

The stock of SpiceJet during Thursday’s trading session surged nearly 6 per cent after the company announced that it has secured a right to fly to the US.

Meanwhile, in today’s trading session, the stock opened at Rs 50 as against its previous close of Rs 49.45 and later cooled down to touched an intraday low of Rs 48.4 but post the announcement of securing a right to fly to the UK, the stock surged nearly 5 per cent to touch an intraday high of Rs 51.80.
