Sensex, Nifty close in green; Shilpa Medicare zooms by more than 11 per cent, Lupin jumps by nearly 9 per cent
Sensex on Monday gained by 141.51 points or 0.37 per cent to close at 38182.08 while Nifty rose by 60.65 points or 0.54 per cent to settle at 11274.70. The day saw pharma stocks like Cipla and Natco Pharma doing well.
Cipla gained by 9.20 per cent per share on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and shares of Natco Pharma gained by 8.82 per cent. Whereas Ipca Labs rose by 7.36 per cent with Pfizer gaining by 4.99 per cent. Divis Labs surged by 11.95 per cent and has become the second largest company by market capitalization in the pharmaceutical sector after Sun Pharmaceutical Industries.
On the global front, Asian indices such as Shanghai index and South Korea’s KOSPI rose by 0.75 per cent and 1.48 per cent respectively, but on the other hand Hong Kong's Hang Seng and Japan's Nikkei fell by 0.63 per cent and 0.39 per cent respectively. The FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 were seen trading in green, up by 0.43 per cent, 0.065 per cent and 0.38 per cent respectively, in the European markets
Sensex gainers consisted of Larsen & Toubro gaining by 4.81 per cent, Mahindra & Mahindra increased by 4.75 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries rose by 3.41 per cent, Tech Mahindra gained by 2.87 per cent, NTPC rose by 2.80 per cent, SBI gained by 1.65 per cent, ICICI Bank increased by 1.61 per cent, Titan Company gained by 1.57 per cent, etc.
Sensex losers made up of RIL declining by 1.26 per cent, Asian Paints fell by 1.17 per cent, Maruti Suzuki fell by 1.09 per cent, Bajaj Finserv decreased by 1.03 per cent, UltraTech Cement decreased by 0.88 per cent, Bajaj Finance declined by 0.70 per cent, etc.
Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Healthcare index soared by 4.69 per cent followed by Capital Goods index and Realty index gaining by 3.30 per cent and 2.73 per cent respectively. Only Oil & Gas index and Energy index ended today’s trading session in the negative territory down by 0.13 per cent and 0.99 per cent respectively.
Broader markets outperformed domestic indices as BSE SmallCap index gained by 1.47 per cent while BSE MidCap index rose by 1.42 per cent.
