Stocks that attracted mutual fund managers in January 2019

If we look at the December 2018 data then energy and financial sectors were the ones that were on top of the purchases made by fund managers. However, the story in the month of January 2019 was something different, this time technology has replaced energy sector and among the financial sector, the bank were the top bets of fund managers.

So, if we look at the above table, we can see that banks have been the favorites of the fund manager in the month of January 2019, with a total approximate buying of Rs. 4,721.97 crore. Even in banks, HDFC and ICICI witnessed buying of approximate Rs. 1,899.25 and 1,710.43 crore, respectively.
 
If we look at the total buying done in the month of January 2019 in a sector-wise manner, then financials and technology have been on the top, followed by automobile and ancillaries, FMCG and Energy with approximate buying of Rs. 6,875.64 crore, Rs. 1,686.19 crore, Rs. 1,458.36 crore, Rs. 1,319.96 crore and Rs. 1,262.78 crore, respectively.
 
If we look at the total buying done in the month of January 2019 market cap-wise, large-cap were on the top, followed by mid-cap and small-cap with approximate buying of Rs. 11,596.62 crore, Rs. 3,615.76 crore and Rs. 2,033.34 crore, respectively.
 
So, the intention of the above analysis is only for the purpose of understanding the activity of mutual funds and gauging the fund managers approach and it in no means is a recommendation to buy or sell. It is always advisable to have a financial plan in place and investments in mutual funds should be based on your individual risk appetite.
