Mutual Fund Update: Stocks that attracted fund managers in April 2019

If we look at the March 2019 data, then the energy sector was the one that featured on top of the buying done by the fund managers. However, the story in the month of April 2019 is something different. This time around, media and communication sector has replaced energy sector to be in the top of fund managers buying list followed by financial, construction and healthcare sectors.

If we look at the above table, then we can see that in the month of April 2019, media and communication sector has come on the top with total approximate buying of Rs. 3,038.73 crore. In media and communication sector also, Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Vodafone Idea Ltd have made their way to the top, with buying of approximately Rs. 2,364.45 crore and Rs 444.12 crore, respectively.

If we look at the total sector-wise buying done in the month of April 2019, then media and communication has been on the top, followed by financial, construction, healthcare and infrastructure, with buying of Rs. 3,038.73 crore, Rs 2,391.72 crore, Rs 1,592.32 crore, Rs 1,252.54 crore and Rs 1,120.22 crore, respectively.

If we look at the total market cap-wise buying done in the month of April 2019, then large-caps were at the top, followed by mid-caps and small-caps, with approximate buying of Rs. 9,267.63 crore, Rs 3,247.57 crore and Rs 2,082.09 crore, respectively.

The intention of the above analysis is only for the purpose of understanding the activity of mutual funds and gauging the fund managers approach. It is by no means recommendation to buy or sell.
