As per the provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, tumbled 2,702.15 points or 4.72 per cent at 54,529.33.

Australia declared sanctions on eight of President Vladimir Putin's top security advisors on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Japan also issued sanctions on Russia; Japan's sanctions include prohibiting the issuance of Russian bonds in Japan and freezing the assets of certain Russian individuals as well as restricting travel to Japan.
