Infra and Consumption Cycle Improved During FY15

It seems that green shoots of growth and development has started on the ground as government has ramped up efforts for infrastructure development and starting crucial consumption cycle. As per the recent data released by Ministry of Statistics & Programme implementation regarding the Infrastructure performance during FY15, Production of power, finished steel, coal, fertilizer, refinery, cement, goods traffic carried by railways, cargo handled at major sea ports, airports and net addition in telephone switching capacity and new cell phone connections spurted during FY15 in comparison to corresponding period last year.

On the power generation front, 1110 Billion Units (BU) have been generated during FY15 as against 1020 BU generated during FY14, showing a growth of 8.85%. Most encouraging was that all sources of power, be it thermal, Nuclear, Hydro and renewable shown decent improvement over previous year figures. Interestingly renewable energy generation jacked up by whooping 16.44% to 61.78BU due to renewed focus of government into this space.

On the lop side, crude oil and natural gas production along with up-gradation of highways have shown shortfall from the respective targets as well as achievement made during the corresponding period last year. This is the real cause of concern for the economy as a whole. On the other hand passengers handled at both terminals of the airport (International & Domestic terminals) were also remained higher during FY15 as against the performance of previous year and also suprassed the targets set by the government. However production of coal, fertilizer, hydro power generation, refinery, goods traffic carried by railways, export and import cargo handled at airports were higher than previous year but missed the growth target of FY15.
