'Destination MP' - Global Investors Summit-II, 2010

Government of Madhya Pradesh, in association with various industry bodies, organized a mega summit 'Destination Madhya Pradesh' - Global Investors Summit-II, on October 22-23, 2010 at Khajuraho. The prime objective of this mega event was to garner investments in various sectors of the state economy, by showcasing the strengths and potential of Madhya Pradesh.

Programme
The sgummit started with inauguration of exhibition by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on October 21, 2010 followed by cultural evening. On October 22nd, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Global Investors Summit-II, 2010, by lighting of lamp. Notable speakers including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Sushma Swaraj, Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister of Commerce, Industry & Employment, addressed the delegates. Keynote address was delivered by Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group. Satya Prakash, Additional Chief Secretary, Commerce, Industry & Employment Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, made a presentation on “Investment opportunities in various sectors” in MP state. The summit concluded on October 23, 2010 with valedictory address of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Cho Po-Yuan, County Magistrate, Changhua County Government, Taiwan, Peter Beckingham, Deputy High Commissioner, British High Commission, Mumbai, Ramesh Chandra Agrawal, Chairman, Bhaskar Group, Anil Ambani, Chairman, Reliance ADA Group, Arun Yadav, Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Government of India, also addressed by delegates on this occasion. Rajendra Shukla, Minister, Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of Madhya Pradesh, proposed vote of thanks.

Guests of Honour
Eminent industrialists who were invited as guests of honour for the summit and graced the event included Anil Ambani,  Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sashi Ruia, Venugopal Dhoot, Jai Prakash Gaur, S P Oswal, Robert Court, Ramesh Chandra Agarwal, Rajinder Gupta, Puneet Dalmia, Vineet Mittal, among others.

Sectoral Sessions
On October 22nd, sectoral presentations focusing potential sectors were made by senior government officials in the presence of a prominent industrialist relating to that sector, who chaired the session. [PAGE BREAK]

The other panelists including a notable investor having presence in the state, who gave his perspective on investing in Madhya Pradesh. Theme presentations were also made highlighting all-India and State scenario relating to respective sectors. Sectors on which sessions were conducted were renewable energy, IT, infrastructure, horticulture and food, apparel and textiles and tourism.

MoUs
Huge investments in sectors like power, cement, food processing, infrastructure, mining and education in the state are proposed by investors as indicated by the MoUs signed during the summit. A total of 107 MoUs worth Rs 2,44,851 crore were signed during the two days of the summit. Some of the major companies signing the MoUs are as follows: Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (Rs 33,147 crore for infrastructure), SEL Manufacturing Company (Rs 2,858 crore for textiles), Jayprakash Associates (Rs 1850 crore for cement plants and miscellaneous), GAIL India (Rs 4,900 crore for oil & natural gas), HUDCO (Rs 1,000 crore for financing), Techno Global (Rs 1,000 crore for education), Infinity Knowledge City (Rs 500 crore for education), Welspun Energy Park (Rs 10,000 crore for energy and infra), Ultratech Cement (Rs 6,000 crore), Visa Steel (Rs 4,025 crore for iron), Rio Tinto (Rs 2,300 crore for mining), NTPC (Rs 20,000 crore for energy), GMR Bundelkhand Energy (Rs 12,000 crore for energy), Videocon Industries (Rs 18,000 crore for energy), among others.
