Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has reached a significant milestone in India’s maritime export sector by securing a high-profile contract with the Government of the Sultanate of Oman. Under this agreement, SDHI will construct and deliver a state-of-the-art training vessel designed to bolster the Royal Navy of Oman’s (RNO) advanced naval training and maritime operations. The 104.25-meter ship, which boasts a displacement of 3,500 T and a 13.88-meter beam, is scheduled for delivery within 18 months. This vessel is engineered to serve as a world-class floating academy, featuring dedicated classrooms, an auditorium for 70 officer cadets and integrated accommodation facilities to support prolonged training missions at sea.
Technologically, the vessel will be equipped with sophisticated navigation systems, an advanced communications suite and specialised decks capable of conducting helicopter operations. This development underscores the rising global competitiveness of Indian shipyards, supported by the Ministry of Defence’s strategic push toward indigenous production and international trade. By delivering high-spec naval hardware to a key regional partner, SDHI is actively contributing to India’s broader maritime vision and its emergence as a major global hub for ship fabrication. This partnership not only highlights technical excellence but also reinforces the long-standing bilateral and maritime cooperation between India and Oman.
Rear Admiral V.K. Saxena (retd), CEO of Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), said, “This contract stands as a testament to our advanced technical expertise and world-class shipbuilding capabilities that meet global benchmarks. Earning the confidence of the Royal Navy of Oman reinforces SDHI’s commitment to excellence and drives us to consistently deliver high-quality vessels distinguished by innovation, reliability and performance.
