Closing bell: Sensex climbs 1,530 points, Nifty crosses 16,250 level; Welspun Corporation soars 17 per cent

On Friday, amid strong global cues, the domestic headline indices ended with massive gains.

On Friday, amid strong global cues, the domestic headline indices ended with massive gains. The indices soared, thanks to the gains in the index heavyweight - Reliance Industries and HDFC twins.  

 

On NSE, all sectoral indices rose with media, real estate, and metal indices rising the most. Investor confidence was increased after China lowered its major lending rates and India's Finance Minister forecasted 8.9 per cent GDP growth in FY23.  

  

BSE Sensex sealed in green after Thursday’s bloodbath, mounting 1,534 points to close at 54,326 levels. BSE Midcap index too rose by 437 points to end the day at 22,506 levels. Likewise, BSE Smallcap index saw an upsurge of 550 points to close at 26,351 levels. The top stocks on BSE Sensex today were Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Nestle India, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, and Axis Bank. However, there were no losers on BSE today.     

    

Nifty 50 ended at 16,266 levels, ascended by 456 points only. Similarly, Bank Nifty soared 960 points and closed the day at 34,276 levels. The top gaining stocks were Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Reliance Industries, JSW Steel, Adani Ports, and Tata Motors. On the contrary, the stocks of Shree Cement and UPL closed negatively today.    

    

The total stocks traded today were 3,418, out of which, 2,497 advanced and 777 stocks declined. There were 144 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 299 while 177 stocks hit their lower circuits today. The number of stocks that hit a new 52-week high is 65 while 36 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.
