Market Wrap: Benchmark indices close on a higher note as Nifty reaches record high!

On Thursday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading day on a positive note as Sensex closed substantially higher by 0.74 per cent concluding at 73,158.24 level, while Nifty also surged by 0.74 per cent and closed after making a new all-time high of 22,252.50 level.

Market Update at 3:40 PM: On Thursday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading day on a positive note as Sensex closed substantially higher by 0.74 per cent concluding at 73,158.24 level, while Nifty also surged by 0.74 per cent and closed after making a new all-time high of 22,252.50 level. Similarly, the Broader market experienced substantial gains as Nifty Midcap closed significantly higher by 1.02 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap soared by 0.68 per cent.

Market volatility, as indicated by India VIX, has declined by 4.58 per cent, reflecting a decrease in market volatility.

Nifty IT, Nifty Auto, Nifty Metal and Nifty Media were among the top gainers while Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services were among the top losers.

Bajaj Auto, HCL Technlogies and Eicher Motors were among the top gainers while Indusind Bank, HDFC Bank and Kotak Bank were among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1269 stocks were advancing as against to 978 stocks that were declining, thus indicating an optimistic sentiment in the broader market.

Market Update at 2:00 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade on a positive note with the Sensex trading higher by 0.2 per cent, while Nifty also trades higher by 0.21 per cent. Whereas, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap soared by 0.7 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap surged by 0.6 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading lower by 4.03 per cent, indicating a decrease in market volatility.

Nifty IT, Nifty Metal and Nifty Media are among the top gainers, while Nifty Bank, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Pharma are among the top losers.

Eicher Motors, HCL Technologies and Coal India are among the top gainers while Indusind Bank, BPCL and Hero Motocorp are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1180 stocks are advancing as against to 1057 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a slight positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 12:40 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade on a lower note with the Sensex plunging by 0.42 per cent, while Nifty also declined by 0.43 per cent. Whereas, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap has surged by 0.42 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap gained by 0.37 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading marginally lower by 1.84 per cent, indicating a slight decrease in market volatility.

European markets are heading for a higher open on Thursday ahead of a busy day of earnings and data in the region. European futures DAX, CAC and FTSE trade higher by 0.18 per cent, 0.81 per cent and 0.43 per cent, respectively.

Nifty Media, Nifty Metal and Nifty IT are among the top gainers, while Nifty Bank, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty PSU Bank are among the top losers.

Coal India, Eicher Motors and HCL Technologies are among the top gainers while Indusind Bank, Grasim and Titan are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1005 stocks are advancing as against to 1224 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a slight negative sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 11:15 AM: In the ongoing trading session, benchmark indices are trading on a lower note, with Sensex trading moderately lower by 0.56 while Nifty is also experiencing a loss of 0.6 per cent. Whereas, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap experience a marginal gain of 0.09 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has surged by 0.17 per cent.

India VIX is trading marginally lower by 0.25 per cent, indicating a slight decrease in market volatility.

Noteworthy gainers include Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty Metal, while Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services are among the top losers.

Top gainers in individual stocks are HCL Technologies, Eicher Motors and Hindalco, whereas Grasim, BPCL and Bharti Airtel are among the leading losers in the Nifty 50.

The broader market sentiment is negative, with 834 stocks advancing compared to 1396 declining.

 

Market Update at 9:35 AM: On Thursday, Indian markets initiated the trading day on a positive note with Sensex opening moderately lower by 0.26 per cent, while Nifty also opened lower by 0.3 per cent. Similarly in the broader indices Nifty Midcap opened moderately lower by 0.74 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap opened substantially lower by 0.91 per cent.

India VIX has marginally surged by 0.57 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

Nifty IT is the only major sector which is trading positively while Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Energy and Nifty Media are among the top losers.

Axis Bank, Eicher Motors and Apollo Hospitals are among the top gainers while BPCL, Power Grid and Asian Paints are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 480 stocks are advancing as against to 1630 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a negative sentiment in the broader market.

 

Pre-Market Update at 8:00 AM: The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up slightly on Wednesday, while the Nasdaq saw its third consecutive session of decline as investors awaited Nvidia's earnings release, which could impact near-term equity momentum.

The S&P 500 rose 0.13 per cent to close at 4,981.80 points, while the Nasdaq fell 0.32 per cent to 15,580.87 points, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.13 per cent to 38,612.24 points.

The GIFT Nifty shows a robust beginning for the benchmark indices, with a rise of 83.50 points or 0.38 per cent. Nifty futures are trading near the 22,131.50 mark.

Oil prices surged by 1 per cent on Wednesday amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and traders' evaluation of indications pointing to near-term supply constraints.

US West Texas Intermediate crude futures (WTI) climbed 87 cents, or 1.1 per cent, reaching a settlement of USD 77.91 per barrel, while Brent crude increased by 69 cents, or 0.8 per cent, settling at USD 83.03 per barrel.

On February 21, 2024, foreign institutional investors (FII) bought shares worth Rs 284.66 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) offloaded shares worth Rs 411.57 crore.

Stocks that are banned for trading in the F&O segment on February 22, 2024, are ASHOKLEY, BALRAMCHIN, BANDHANBNK, BIOCON, CANBK, GMRINFRA, GNFC, HINDCOPPER, INDIACEM, INDUSTOWER, NATIONALUM, PEL, PVRINOX, RBLBANK and ZEEL.
