Market Wrap: Benchmark indices close on a negative note while Nifty Smallcap Underperformed!

On Tuesday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading day on a lower note as Sensex closed moderately lower by 0.26 per cent closing at 73,677.14 level, while Nifty also plunged by 0.22 per cent and closed at 22,356.30 level.

Market Update at 3:55 PM: On Tuesday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading day on a lower note as Sensex closed moderately lower by 0.26 per cent closing at 73,677.14 level, while Nifty also plunged by 0.22 per cent and closed at 22,356.30 level. Similarly, the Broader market also experienced underperformance as Nifty Midcap closed lower by 0.27 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap plummeted by 1.24 per cent.

Market volatility, as indicated by India VIX, has declined by 3.64 per cent, reflecting a decrease in market volatility.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty Energy were among the top gainers while Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty FMCG were among the top losers.

Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Auto were among the top gainers while Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance and Nestle India were among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 745 stocks were advancing as against to 1527 stocks that were declining, thus indicating a negative sentiment in the broader market.

Market Update at 2:15 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade on a lower note with the Sensex trading moderately lower by 0.24 per cent, while Nifty trades lower by 0.22 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap plunged by 0.36 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap plummeted by 1.18 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading lower by 2.30 per cent, indicating a slight decrease in market volatility.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty Bank are among the top gainers, while Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty FMCG are among the top losers.

Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto are among the top gainers while Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and Infosys are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 756 stocks are advancing as against to 1516 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a negative sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 12:45 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade lower with the Sensex plunging by 0.34 per cent, while Nifty plummeted by 0.34 per cent. Similarly in the broader indices Nifty Midcap has declined by 0.45 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has significantly declined by 1.21 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading lower by 1.64 per cent, indicating a slight decrease in market volatility.

European stocks are heading for a lower open as markets struggle to find positive momentum ahead of the European Central Bank meeting later this week. European futures DAX, CAC and FTSE trade lower by 0.30 per cent, 0.34 per cent 0.35 per cent respectively.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty are among the top gainers, while Nifty Media, Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG are among the top losers.

Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel and M&M are among the top gainers while LTIMindtree, Infosys and Wipro are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 689 stocks are advancing as against to 1570 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a negative sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 11:20 AM: In the ongoing trading session, benchmark indices are trading on a negative note, with Sensex trading moderately lower by 0.58 per cent while Nifty trades lower by 0.55 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap experiences a moderate decline of 0.3 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap plummets by 1.07 per cent.

India VIX is trading marginally lower by 1.51 per cent, indicating a slight decrease in market volatility.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty are among the top gaining sectors while Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty FMCG among the top losers.

Top gainers in individual stocks are Tata Motors, UPL and M&M, whereas TCS, Infosys and JSW Steel are among the leading losers in the Nifty 50.

The broader market sentiment is negative, with 659 stocks advancing compared to 1572 declining.

 

Market Update at 9:40 AM: On Tuesday, Indian markets initiated the trading day on a negative note with Sensex opening marginally lower by 0.21 per cent, while Nifty also opened lower by 0.19 per cent. Whereas in the broader indices Nifty Midcap opened marginally higher by 0.22 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap opened moderately lower by 0.49 per cent.

India VIX has marginally decline by 0.17 per cent, indicating a marginal decrease in market volatility.

Nifty Auto, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Realty are among the top gainers while Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty Financial Services are among the top losers.

Tata Motors, UPL and M&M are among the top gainers while HCL Technologies, TCS and ICICI Bank are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1069 stocks are advancing as against to 1041 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a neutral sentiment in the broader market.

 

Pre-Market Update at 7:55 AM: The S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq Composite retreated from their record highs on Monday as last week's upward momentum halted, with investors gearing up for a busy week of news, including Congressional testimony from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and the release of the February Nonfarm Payrolls Report on Friday.

Semiconductor stocks, led by Intel and Nvidia, continued their climb this year, posting gains of 4.1 per cent and 3.6 per cent, respectively. However, a 2.5 per cent drop in Apple weighed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Investors are also awaiting earnings reports from major retailers like Target, scheduled for Tuesday.

The S&P 500 index dipped 6.13 points (0.1 per cent) to 5,130.95; the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 97.55 points (0.3 per cent) to 38,989.83; and the Nasdaq Composite declined 67.43 points (0.4 per cent) to 16,207.51.

The latest trends in the GIFT Nifty suggest a robust beginning for the benchmark indices, with an increase of 26.50 points or 0.12 per cent. The Nifty futures were observed trading approximately at the 22,516.50 level.

On Monday, oil prices closed marginally lower due to demand concerns offsetting the anticipated prolongation of voluntary output reductions by the OPEC+ coalition until mid-year.

Brent futures concluded at USD 82.80 per barrel, down by 75 cents, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) settled at USD 78.74 per barrel, marking a decline of USD 1.24 or 1.5 per cent.

On March 04, 2024, foreign institutional investors (FII) offloaded shares worth Rs 564.06 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) bought shares worth Rs 3,542.87 crore.

Stock that is banned for trading in the F&O segment on March 05, 2024, is Zee Entertainment.
