Market Wrap: Benchmark indices surge while Nifty Smallcap outperforms!

On Thursday, Frontline indices concluded the trading day on a positive note as Sensex closed moderately higher by 0.32 per cent concluding at 72,050.39 level, while Nifty also surged by 0.32 per cent and closed at 21,910.75 level.

Similarly, the Broader market also experienced substantial gains as Nifty Midcap closed higher by 1.01 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap soared by 1.32 per cent.

Market volatility, as indicated by India VIX, has plunged by 1.36 per cent, reflecting a slight decrease in market volatility.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Energy, Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty were among the top gainers while Nifty FMCG, Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma were among the top losers.

M&M, BPCL and NTPC were among the top gainers while Axis Bank, Apollo Hospitals and ITC were among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1517 stocks were advancing as against to 741 stocks that were declining, thus indicating an optimistic sentiment in the broader market.

Market Update at 2:25 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade on a higher note with the Sensex surging by 0.26 per cent, while Nifty gained by 0.29 per cent. Whereas, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap surged by 0.83 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap soared by 1.12 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading marginally lower by 0.11 per cent, indicating a slight decrease in market volatility.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Energy and Nifty Auto are among the top gainers, while Nifty FMCG, Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma are among the top losers.

M&M, BPCL and ONGC are among the top gainers while Apollo Hospitals, Axis Bank and Britannia are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1529 stocks are advancing as against to 712 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 12:40 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade on a mixed note with the Sensex marginally declining by 0.03 per cent, while Nifty marginally gained by 0.04 per cent. Whereas, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap surged by 0.69 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap surged by 0.94 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading marginally higher by 0.53 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

European markets are set to open on higher note as European futures, DAX, FTSE and CAC trade higher by 0.13 per cent, 0.5 per cent respectively and 0.6 per cent respectively.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Energy and Nifty Realty are among the top gainers, while Nifty FMCG, Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma are among the top losers.

Market Update at 11:15 AM: In the ongoing trading session, benchmark indices are trading on a positive note, with Sensex trading higher by 0.1 while Nifty is showing a gain of 0.16 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap experiences a substantial gain of 0.81 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap soared by 1.13 per cent.

India VIX is trading marginally higher by 0.75 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

Noteworthy gainers include Nifty Energy, Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty, while Nifty FMCG, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Financial Services are among the top losers.

Top gainers in individual stocks are M&M, ONGC and BPCL, whereas Axis Bank, Kotak Bank and ICICI Bank are among the leading losers in the Nifty 50.

The broader market sentiment has turned positive, with 1608 stocks advancing compared to 624 declining.

 

Market Update at 9:30 AM: On Thursday, Indian markets initiated the trading day on a positive note with the Sensex opening marginally higher by 0.12 per cent, while Nifty also opened higher by 0.13 per cent. Similarly, Nifty Midcap opened substantially higher by 0.91 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap opened higher by 1.37 per cent.

India VIX has marginally declined by 0.29 per cent, indicating a slight decrease in market volatility.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty are among the top gainers while Nifty FMCG, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Bank are among the top losers.

About 1725 stocks are advancing as against to 381 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Pre-Market Update at 8:35 AM: On Wednesday, Wall Street saw significant gains with ride-hailing giants Lyft and Uber rallying, while Nvidia surpassed Alphabet to become the third most valuable company in the US stock market.

Ahead of Nvidia's upcoming Quarterly Results, the AI chipmaker's market capitalization exceeded that of Alphabet, reaching USD 1.825 trillion following a 2.5 per cent increase in its stock price.

Uber experienced a remarkable surge of nearly 15 per cent, reaching a record high, driven by a USD 7 billion share buyback plan.

The S&P 500 closed up 0.96 per cent, reaching 5,000.62 points by the end of the session. The Nasdaq also saw gains, rising 1.30 per cent to 15,859.15 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.40 per cent to 38,424.27 points.

The GIFT Nifty trends suggest a favourable beginning for the benchmark indices, with an increase of 80 points or 0.37 per cent. Trading activity in Nifty futures hovered near the 21,993 mark.

On Wednesday, oil futures declined by USD 1 per barrel due to soaring US crude inventories, which exerted downward pressure on prices. Additionally, concerns over a potential security threat to the US, which could dampen oil demand in the world's largest economy, contributed to the downward trend.

Brent crude futures closed at USD 81.60 per barrel, marking a decrease of USD 1.17 or 1.4 per cent. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures settled at USD 76.64 per barrel, experiencing a loss of USD 1.23 or 1.6 per cent.

On February 14, 2024, foreign institutional investors (FII) offloaded shares worth Rs 3,929.60 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) purchased shares worth Rs 2,897.98 crore.

Stocks that are banned for trading in the F&O segment on February 15, 2024, are ABFRL, ASHOKLEY, AUROPHARMA, BALRAMCHIN, BANDHANBNK, BIOCON, DELTACORP, HINDCOPPER, INDIACEM, INDUSTOWER, NATIONALUM, PNB, SAIL and ZEEL.
