The top stocks on BSE Sensex today were Tata Steel, Induslnd Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC, and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Amid poor global cues, the Indian markets kicked off the week on a somewhat lower note. 

The shares of VA Tech Wabag soared 9 per cent on BSE after the company secured an order to design, build & operate (DBO) for 50 MLD (expandableto 100 MLD) Mamelles Sea Water Desalination Project from Société Nationale Des Eaux du Sénégal (SONES), the National Water Company of Senegal, worth about 146 million Euros. This project will help the company to enhance its global position in the desalination market.   

On Friday, the domestic equity indices reversed intraday gains and ended the day with minor losses. In the final hour of the trading, there was a lot of selling. All of NSE's sectoral indices ended in the red with the exception of IT and oil & gas. After touching the day's high of 16,793 in the early trade, Nifty fell below the 16,600 mark. 

The domestic markets opened with a bang with Sensex and Nifty indices climbing nearly 0.85 per cent & 0.66 per cent, respectively. For the second day in a row, technology stocks have risen. Buying was aided by positive global signals. The chart was held up by sectors such as Nifty IT, metal, bank, and financial services.

In the midst of turbulence, the benchmark barometers continued losing their streak into the second trading session and closed with minor losses on Wednesday.

The domestic markets have now entered the green zone. Nifty Auto, FMCG, IT, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare indices are all trading at a loss of approximately 0.50 per cent.

BSE Sensex closed at 55,566 levels, sinking by 359 points. On the contrary, BSE Midcap index increased by 112 points to end the day at 23,143 levels.

BSE Sensex opened on a negative note, losing by 63 points and trading at a level of 55,862 at 11.05 am.

The Indian benchmark indices have started the day on a positive note. On the back of good global cues, Indian markets opened today on a high note.
