BSE Sensex managed to close higher by 0.80 per cent while BSE Smallcap and BSE Midcap indices underperformed the key benchmark index. 

On Friday, with the dovish Monetary Policy by RBI, the repo rate hike of 50 basis points kept the bulls in action while bears tried to drag the indices as inflation projections were maintained for fiscal 2022-23 in spite of three consecutive rate hikes. 

On Thursday, the equity markets ended marginally down as investors booked profit post six consecutive positive trading sessions and ahead of the RBI monetary policy outcome on Friday.

On Wednesday, in a tight competition between bulls and bears, the bears finally showed a winning streak and the benchmark indices closed higher. For the domestic market, the major event investors are eyeing this week is the RBI’s policy meeting outcome. 
 

The global indicators favoured bears as most Asian as well as Western markets were trading over concerns of rising geopolitical tension between the US and China.  

On Monday, the domestic equity markets commenced the week on a positive note and ended with gains of nearly one per cent. Supportive global cues coupled with buying across sectors pushed the benchmarks to end higher. 

On Friday, investors piled up the metal and IT shares, coupled with some major Sensex stocks like Reliance Industries, HDFC twins, Sun Pharma, and Bajaj Finance. The benchmark indices ended the trading session near the day's high level, closing the week on a green note. 

On Thursday, the bulls took charge of the Indian equity markets after the US Federal Reserve's (US Fed) chairman Jerome Powell hinted at an eventual slowdown of rate hikes once inflation peaks out. 

Witnessing a broad-based rally, domestic markets faded the morning losses and ended sharply higher on Wednesday. At the close, the Sensex was up 547.83 points or 0.99 per cent at the 55,816.32 level, and the Nifty was up 158.00 points or 0.96 per cent at the 16,641.80 level. 

Ahead of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy outcome on Wednesday, the investors chose to remain cautious in today's trading session. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex slipped 498 points, or 0.89 per cent, to end at 55,268, while the broader Nifty50 settled at 16,484 level, down 147 points or 0.88 per cent.
