The markets ended Monday’s trading session on a high note, owing to better sentiments from domestic investors.

Meanwhile, S&P BSE Smallcap index gained only 255.92 points to end at 29,056.74.

Snapping the winning streak for eight sessions, the benchmark indices ended the week on a lower note. Sensex was down 651.85 points or 1.08 per cent at 59,646.15 level, and the Nifty was down 198 points or 1.10 per cent at the 17,758.50 level. 

Post recording a fall of 300 points during Thursday's trading session, the Sensex recouped all of its losses to end at the 60,298 level, being up by 38 points or 0.06 per cent, whereas the Nifty 50 recovered from a low of 17,852 to end at 17,965, up 21 points or 0.12 per cent. 

On Wednesday, the bulls on Dalal Street held on to the momentum going up as Sensex crossed the psychological 60,000 mark whereas Nifty travelled towards the 18,000-level due to softening inflation and robust FII buying in the current month. 

The domestic markets maintained a positive momentum through the trading session supported by optimistic global cues and a few domestic factors which caused a rally in realty, automobile and banking stocks. Sensex ended 379.43 points or 0.64 per cent up at 59,842.21 while Nifty settled 127.10 points or 0.72 per cent up at 17,825.30 level. 

On Wednesday, the benchmark Indices closed flat amid volatility. Strong buying is seen in capital goods and metal stocks while IT stocks were under selling pressure today. 

BSE Sensex managed to close higher by 0.80 per cent while BSE Smallcap and BSE Midcap indices underperformed the key benchmark index. 

On Friday, with the dovish Monetary Policy by RBI, the repo rate hike of 50 basis points kept the bulls in action while bears tried to drag the indices as inflation projections were maintained for fiscal 2022-23 in spite of three consecutive rate hikes. 

On Thursday, the equity markets ended marginally down as investors booked profit post six consecutive positive trading sessions and ahead of the RBI monetary policy outcome on Friday.
