Sensex jumped 350 points; Nifty closed above 17,900, Realty sector emerged as the star performer of the day

IOC, Bajaj Auto and Bajaj Finance are the top gainers while Hindustan Unilever, Power grid Corp and HDFC Life were the top losers amongst Nifty 50 stocks.

Market update at 3.30 PM:     

Nifty witnessed one way up move on monthly expiry session. It closed around day’s high by rallying 0.5 per cent to close at 17,915 level.  

S&P BSE Sensex also rallied more than 300 points to close at 60,649 level. Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Small cap 100 traded strong for the day and closed around 0.5 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively.   

Realty, Auto and Metal sector traded strong while FMCG sector remained weak for the day.           

IOC, Bajaj Auto and Bajaj Finance are the top gainers while Hindustan Unilever, Power grid Corp and HDFC Life were the top losers amongst Nifty 50 stocks.       

Nifty closed above its prior swing high which is a positive sign for the bulls. 17,800 level will be nearest technical support level for upcoming sessions. 

 

Market update at 2.30 PM: Indices have been trading higher amid strong volatility as the day progresses. NSE Nifty 50 index has jumped 0.30 per cent to trade at 17,900 levels while S&P Sensex has gained 200 points. Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap have risen 0.39 per cent and 0.62 per cent respectively.   

IT and realty stocks have seen fresh buying interest while FMCG stocks are slightly weak. India VIX has cooled off from day’s high and currently trades flat.   

 

Market update at 11.15 AM: Indices have been trading on a mixed note amid strong volatility on the monthly expiry day. NSE Nifty 50 index is trading flat near 17,800 levels while Sensex is up 60 points. Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap have jumped 0.50 per cent and 0.58 per cent respectively.  

Realty, along with the IT stocks are the top performers, while Pharma and PSU Banks are weak today.  

About 1,318 stocks are advancing as against 634 stock are declining, thus showing positive participation in the market.  

Bajaj Finance zooms over 2 per cent after strong Q4 results. Meanwhile, HDFC Life Insurance, Powergrid Corporation and HUL are weak today. 

17,800 shall act as crucial support for Nifty for near term. 

 

Market update at 9.30 AM: Indices have been trading on a mixed note at the start of the session. NSE Nifty 50 trades marginally above 17,800 levels while S&P BSE Sensex has jumped 70 points. Smallcap stocks have seen good buying interest.  

Realty and banks are the top performers amongst the sectors while media and pharma stocks are weak today. India VIX has jumped over a per cent on the day of monthly expiry.

 

Pre-market update: Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped yet another day around 0.68 per cent and closed around day’s low at 33,301 level. Nasdaq 100 Index opened gap up after strong results of index heavy weight stocks like Alphabet and Microsoft and closed around 0.64 per cent higher at 12,806 level.  

In global commodities, Gold and Silver closed in red, 0.34 per cent and 0.48 per cent in its previous consolidation zone.  

Brent crude futures tumbled yet another trading session more than 3 per cent.  

In Wednesday's trading session, FIIs bought 1257.48 crore and DIIs sold 227.88 in domestic market.

Now SGX Nifty indicates Nifty likely to open gap down around 40 points, may witness volatile session on monthly expiry day.
