Shares of GRM Overseas, the top BSE Smallcap gainer, soared almost 20 per cent, keeping small-cap bulls active.

Global indices were rising as Wall Street indices experienced an overnight rally, with the Nasdaq Composite index soaring 2.59 per cent led by mega-cap growth stocks. The rupee strengthened against the US dollar, while oil prices tumbled further due to a gloomy demand outlook and the deteriorating Covid situation.

The Indian headline indices started the last session of the year higher but they sharply fell at the end, primarily because of losses in FMCG and banking stocks. In an otherwise weak market, BSE Consumer Durables enticed investors with gains of 0.85 per cent.

At 3:30 pm, the BSE Sensex lost 0.48 per cent, reaching a level of 60,840. The Nifty 50 index declined 0.47 per cent to the 18,105 level. On the Sensex, Bajaj Finserv, Titan and Bajaj Finance were the Top Gainers, whereas ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel and HDFC were the Top Losers.

With 2,195 shares rising and 1,303 falling on the BSE, the advance-decline ratio still remained in favour of advances, while broader indices outperformed main indices, with the BSE Smallcap index ending the session 0.76 per cent higher. Shares of GRM Overseas, the top BSE Smallcap gainer, soared almost 20 per cent, keeping Small-Cap bulls active.
