The top low-priced gainers on the BSE that experienced strong buying were Genus Prime Infra, Cargosol Logistics and Market Creators.

The overnight decline in Wall Street indices was caused by concerns that the Federal Reserve would need to continue aggressive interest rate hikes to combat inflation, in the wake of an unexpectedly strong jobs report.

On the back of weak global cues, Indian headline indices opened flat with a bearish bias and fell further, driven down by significant losses in auto, telecom and technology sector stocks. In an otherwise sluggish market, BSE Metals was the top performing sector, with gains of more than 1 per cent.

At 12:45 pm, the BSE Sensex fell 0.32 per cent, reaching a level of 60,925. The Nifty 50 index declined 0.33 per cent to the 18,085 level. On the Sensex, Sun Pharmaceuticals, ITC Ltd and HDFC Bank were the Top Gainers, whereas Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki and Nestle India were the Top Losers.

After announcing strong quarter results, shares of Sun Pharmaceuticals, the top Sensex gainer, rallied and traded at a new 52-week high. Year-on-year, the pharmaceutical company witnessed a 10 per cent surge in net profit and a 13 per cent rise in gross sales.

Despite a drop in the main indices, the BSE Smallcap index gained 0.24 per cent. Karnataka Bank, the top BSE Smallcap gainer, surged and locked at a 20 per cent upper circuit. The top low-priced gainers on the BSE that experienced strong buying were Genus Prime Infra, Cargosol Logistics and Market Creators.
