The top low-priced gainers on the BSE that experienced strong buying were Gian Life Care, Cerebra Integrated Technologies and Indsil Hydro Power and Manganese.

Despite mixed investor mood in Asian markets, Indian benchmark indices opened slightly higher, owing to gains in domestic metal stocks. The indices, however, quickly gave up their initial gains and started trading down.

Fears of an economic slowdown, coupled with the Federal Reserve's relentless interest rate hikes, resulted in a drop in Wall Street indices overnight, with technology stocks bearing the brunt of the damage. Following the collapse in global technology stocks, the BSE IT and BSE Teck indices performed worst today, whereas with gains of more than 2 per cent, BSE Metals was the best performing sector, driven by nearly 6 per cent rise in Vedanta Ltd.

At 2:00 pm, the BSE Sensex declined 0.18 per cent, reaching a level of 60,728. The Nifty 50 index edged down by 0.01 per cent to the 18,051 level. On the Sensex, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel and UltraTech Cement Company were the Top Gainers, whereas Infosys, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Power Grid Corporation of India were the Top Losers.

The top BSE Smallcap gainer, Cerebra Integrated Technologies, soared almost 20 per cent with a more than 11-fold surge in volume. The top low-priced gainers on the BSE that experienced strong buying were Gian Life Care, Cerebra Integrated Technologies and Indsil Hydro Power and Manganese.
