Around noon on Tuesday, the headline equity indices, i.e. Sensex and Nifty 50 were trading marginally lower as the US markets look ahead to what many expect will be the start of a volatile second-quarter earnings season this week.  

Sensex was at 54,012.62, down by 382.61 points or 0.70 per cent while Nifty 50 was at 16,081.70, down by 124.30 points or 0.77 per cent.  

Dow Jones, during Monday’s session, shed 164.31 points or 0.5 per cent. S&P 500 fell 1.2 per cent while Nasdaq Composite lost nearly 2.3 per cent. 

Japanese stocks led losses in the Asia-Pacific markets on Tuesday as risk-off sentiment took hold.  

In Japan's afternoon trading, Nikkei 225 fell 1.93 per cent as tech firms including SoftBank Group and Fanuc slipped 4.32 per cent & 4.93 per cent, respectively. Hang Seng index in Hong Kong plunged 1.21 per cent while Hang Seng TECH index tumbled 2.15 per cent.   

The fears of strict COVID regulations put Mainland China's markets on track after two days of fall. Shenzhen Component tanked 1.68 per cent while Shanghai Composite dipped 1.01 per cent.  

The crude oil price also declined by 2 per cent and is trading at $101.94 per barrel while the US Treasury rates decreased on Monday as investors continued to analyse the positive results of the most recent employment report and prepared for significant inflation data that will be released later this week.  

The Top Gainers in Nifty 50 pack are Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, NTPC, Adani Ports & SEZ, Apollo Hospitals, Axis Bank, and Coal India. Meanwhile, the Top Losers pulling down the index are Hindalco Industries, Eicher Motors, BPCL, Britannia Industries, and Infosys.  

BSE Smallcap index is trading at 25,862.22, down by 0.21 per cent. The top gainers in the pack were Xchanging Solutions, BGR Energy Systems, ITI, MTNL, and Take Solutions. Each of these stocks gained more than 11 per cent. Similarly, the top losers were Techno Electric Engineering, Mirza International, KBC Global, Phoenix Mills, and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited.    

On the sectoral front, BSE Utilities, BSE Telecom, BSE Power were trading in the green while the rest of them were trading in the red territory.
