Oil prices jumped on worries of western sanctions on Russia for sending troops into two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine could hit energy supplies. Australia declared sanctions on eight of President Vladimir Putin's top security advisors on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Japan also issued sanctions on Russia; Japan's sanctions include prohibiting the issuance of Russian bonds in Japan and freezing the assets of certain Russian individuals as well as restricting travel to Japan. 

 

The rupee improved by 21 paise to 74.63 in early trade on Wednesday tracking positive domestic equities as investors. A sell-off was seen by the FII of Rs -3,245.52 crore and the buying of DII of Rs 4108.58 crore was recorded. 

 

The BSE Sensex index soared by 349 points after opening positively and is trading at a level of 57,650.21. The gaining stocks today are Titan, Kotak Bank, Bajaj Finance, Induslnd Bank, and State Bank of India. BSE MidCap has climbed by 314 points and is trading at 23,731.86 points. The gaining stocks today in the index are Adani Power (5.77 per cent), Oberoi Realty (4.58 per cent), and JSW Energy (4.55 per cent). BSE SmallCap also scaled today by 477 points and is trading at 27,177.14. The top gainers are Yaari Digital Integrated System (19.98 per cent), R System international (11.54 per cent), and Gulshan Polyols (9.99 per cent). 

 

The Nifty 50 index is trading at the 17,191.20 mark rising by 99 points. The top gaining stocks are Kotak Bank, Asian Paints, Titan, Maruti Suzuki, and Tata Consumers. The stocks in red today are ONGC, JSW Steel, Hero MotoCorp, NTPC, and Hindustan Unilever, falling more than 0.35 per cent each.
