New iPhones with eSIMs to provide Jio, Airtel competitive edge

Apple for the first time introduced dual-SIM phones on Thursday. In India, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel will the company's eSIM network option for the new iPhone XS series.

So what is eSIM? And why eSIM?
At a much-awaited launch event, the trillion dollar phone maker announced three versions, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max. Of these, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max will offer dual-SIM support. But here is the catch, the secondary SIM would be a digital SIM or eSIM.

The Embedded-Subscriber Identity Module (eSIM) will come pre-installed in the device. It can be activated remotely with the help of the telecom service provider. In India, two big telco service operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have been roped in by the company to provide cellular service to support this system. Other than Apple, only Google Pixel 2 offer eSIM option, but it is not available in India.

The new iPhoneXS also boasts of a new camera system with a 12MP wide, plus 12MP tele camera sensor with Smart HDR. It also features A12 bionic chip made on 7 nanometer process, will it claims is the fastest and the smartest chip ever.

Apple products have a huge fan following in India. Jio and Airtel stand to benefit from their eSIM compatible network.

Meanwhile, the stock of Reliance Industries closed at Rs. 1,252.70 per share, up 1.15 per cent and Bharti Airtel was at Rs. 375.00 per share, down by 1.28 per cent on the BSE exchange, on Wednesday. The markets were closed on Thursday on occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
