On Friday’s trading, the Indian indices were volatile and closed slightly lower. BSE Sensex closed at 61,223.03 levels down by 12 points. On the BSE Sensex index, the stocks of HFCL, Jain Irrigation Systems, Cosmo Films, Jamna Auto Industries, and Ge T&D India gained more than 7 per cent. BSE MidCap closed at 26,085.24 up just by 58 points, also the BSE SmallCap closed similarly, up by 153 points at 30,951.28 levels.

Interestingly, it was the IT sector again that provided the much-needed support to the index and this was quite evident from the fact that among the top three contributors, two were from the IT sector namely, Infosys & TCS.   

BSE Small-cap index relatively outperformed broader markets by gaining 0.50 per cent, ending at 30,951.28. 

Indian benchmark indices ended flat in the volatile session on January 14. 

Nifty ended flat on Friday while Sensex closed at 61,223. It was a volatile day as Nifty swung in both directions but settled near Thursday’s close.
