Grasim Industries and Arvind to set up facilities in Gujarat

India’s leading textile companies Grasim Industries and Arvind are planning to set up new manufacturing facilities at Gujarat. The state is country's textile hub with 2.5 million installed spindles.

In September 2017 Gujarat government extended its textile policy for a year and recently it announced a new policy for garment and apparel sector. Under this policy, the government has announced incentives for garment unit owners for employment generation by providing subsidy on wages. And will also provide incentives like interest subsidy, stamp duty exemption and relief in electricity duty (partial). Further, under this policy special provision for women workers has been made wherein they will be paid Rs. 4000/month.

To grab the opportunity Grasim and Arvind have planned to set up the facilities at Gujarat. On October 17, 2017 Grasim industries signed an agreement with the state government to invest Rs. 4,100 crores with an aim to set up two factories. Both of these will be situated at Bharuch and Surat, respectively. These man-made fibre facilities will employ 1,300 people collectively. And these are expected to commence in FY18 and FY20, respectively.

Further, On October 17, 2017  Arvind ltd also declared that it has entered into an agreement with the Gujarat government for setting up Mega Apparel Factory.

Also, it has mentioned that the mega project which will be located at Dehgam, Gandhinagar with a production capacity of 24 million garments will cost Rs. 300 crore.

Going ahead, Arvind is planning to commence its commercial production at Gandhinagar in last quarter of 2018 (Q4FY18) and planning to create 10,000 jobs, said Kulin Lalbhai, Executive Director of Arvind.
