Bharat Heavy Electricals successfully manufactures & tests highest rating auto transformer

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully manufactured and tested (short circuit) India’s highest rating auto transformer at National High Power Test Laboratory (NHPTL), which is at Bina in Madhya Pradesh. This is a new benchmark in the global transformer industry.

Reacting to this, the stock of BHEL jumped more than 6 per cent and made an intraday high of Rs 33.45 per share.

A short circuit test is a special type of test for power transformers, which is conducted to check whether they withstand abnormal conditions of a short circuit to ensure reliability during their operations in the field.

This 500 MVA 400/220/33 kV auto transformer plays a crucial role in bulk power transmission to load centres and bigger cities. Successfully passing the short circuit test indicates the company’s strength in the sector.

BHEL is the country’s largest and oldest power transformers manufacturing company. It develops transformers with voltage levels going up to 1,200 kV class.

The stock of BHEL has recovered by 81.79 per cent from its sharp decline in March 2020.

At 2.43 pm today, the stock of BHEL was trading at Rs 33 per share on BSE, up by 4.93 per cent.
