Sensex, Nifty continue bull-run; NCC & Graphite India lock in at upper circuit, Adani Transmission jumps 8 per cent

Sensex, Nifty continue bull-run; NCC & Graphite India lock in at upper circuit, Adani Transmission jumps 8 per cent

Markets continue to touch record close as Nifty and Sensex closed above 15,000 and 51,000 levels, respectively for the first time ever. Sensex gained by 617.14 points or 1.22 per cent to close at 51,348.77 levels while Nifty rose by 1.28 per cent or 191.55 points to settle at 15,115.80 levels.   

Metal, auto & IT stocks were the top gainers in today’s trading session with IT stocks contributing the most towards index gains.  

In the global markets, Asian indices such as Shanghai Composite index, Hang Seng and Nikkei rose by 1.03 per cent, 0.11 per cent and 2.12 per cent, respectively whereas, KOSPI fell by 0.94 per cent.  

In the European markets, FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 were trading in the green, up by 0.71 per cent, 0.22 per cent and 0.57 per cent, respectively.  

Market breadth remained in the favour of advances. In Sensex basket, 24 stocks gained while 6 declined.  

Sensex gainers included Mahindra & Mahindra that surged 7.23 per cent, Bajaj Finserv zoomed by 3.24 per cent Bharti Airtel jumped 2.77 per cent, Power Grid soared by 2.61 per cent, Infosys gained 2.52 per cent, ICICI Bank went up by 2.43 per cent, Tech Mahindra strengthened by 2.37 per cent, Larsen & Toubro increased by 2.35 per cent, etc.  

Sensex losers consisted of HUL that plunged 1.4 per cent, Kotak Mahindra fell by 1.32 per cent, Bajaj Finance decreased by 0.70 per cent, ITC declined by 0.49 per cent, Bajaj Auto went down by 0.22 per cent while Sun Pharmaceutical Industries inched lower by 0.02 per cent.  

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, the Auto index was the biggest gainer, up by 3.07 per cent while the FMCG index was the biggest loser, down by 0.53 per cent. In the broader markets, BSE Small-Cap index and BSE Mid-Cap index gained 1.53 per cent and 1.50 per cent, respectively.
