It foresaw the importance & emergence of energy and minerals as two critical ingredients for developing economies, particularly for India. Synergy in energy became the basis of all its future endeavours. Today, SEML is one of the very few companies to become completely self-sufficient in terms of its energy requirements and is well on its way to achieve self-sufficiency in other mineral resources. The company has acquired iron ore & manganese mines in India and is aggressively looking for mineral resources across the globe. 

The latest development is that Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved provisional tariff for the 113 MW Hydropower Project of Madhya Bharat Power Corporation Ltd (a subsidiary of the company). Around 85 per cent of the cost of the project incurred is as per the audited accounts of the company as of March 31, 2021, with a return on equity of 15.5 per cent per annum as per the relevant regulations under the Electricity Act.   

The final tariff will be determined based on the cost incurred up to the date of COD, as may be approved by the Commission, following the due process of law in due course. 

On Wednesday, the stock opened at Rs 641.80 on NSE and thereafter, went on to touch the lows of Rs 625. In the end, it managed to settle at the highest point of the day with gains of 4.99 per cent, which was the upper circuit limit of the stock. Considering the press release released post-market hours, the stock could be in action on Thursday.
