Investment Philosophy - Rakesh Jhunjhunwala

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala:

This name needs no introduction among the investing community. He is one of the best in the business when it comes to investing. He is known as the Badshah of Stock market or Warren Buffet of India. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala was born on July 5, 1960. His father was an income tax officer. His father was interested in stocks and used to discuss the stock market with his friends and associates. Youthful Rakesh came in contact with those discussions at an early age and during this period his interest in the stock market was kindled. So, once he went up to his father and asked out of curiosity what causes the prices to fluctuate? His father told him to check the news, it makes the price to fluctuate. This was his first lesson of stock market. He got fascinated by stocks and found them interesting. After he finished graduation from Sydenham College, he completed his Chartered Accountant course from the premiere Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

After completing CA, Jhunjhunwala went back to the stock market in 1985 to earn and trade with his money. The BSE Sensex was 150 at the inception of his career. His first ever large income was from selling 5,000 shares of Tata Tea and thereafter there was no looking back for the Badshah of Indian stock market.

The Badshah of Indian stock market too had his share of defeats amid the recession period, but the continuous struggle and learning from mistakes has been his strength.

Investment Philosophy:

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala is an inspiring character who never looked for shortcuts to success and always relied upon the knowledge readily available in the market. He believes in the power of mistakes that made him to learn and become a better investor. He has been quoted  as saying, “If you don’t believe the markets are supreme, you will never admit that it was your mistake. If you don’t admit that it is your mistake, you will never learn. To succeed in the stock market, not only is the ability to learn from one’s mistake vital.” He has also said, “Respect the market. Have an open mind. Know what to stake. Know when to take a loss. Be responsible.”
