BHEL: Powering Development

BHEL has recently inked a five-year pact with global energy major Shell for the supply of gas turbine generator packages. The state-run power equipment maker would provide gas turbine generator packages to select locations of Shell in Asia Pacific, Middle East, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa.

BHEL Trichi has also established Welding Research Institute (WRI), established in 1975 by the Government of India with UNIDO and UNDP assistance under the management of BHEL has been constantly interacting with world renowned institutions for updating the knowledge base on latest technologies and assimilating experience. The major activities of the Institute include research and development on various welding processes and technologies, metallurgical investigations, dissemination of knowledge in welding and consultancy services.

NTPC: Ambitious Plans

The country's largest power producer NTPC will invest nearly Rs 12000 crore for setting up 1600 MW first stage of the Lara Super Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh. NTPC's announcement comes a day after the company increased its generation capacity to 39674 MW. The board of directors of NTPC has approved an investment of Rs 11846 crore for the first stage (1600 MW) of the project.

GAIL: Piping Ahead

An MoU worth Rs 2000 crore has been signed between the Government of Chhattisgarh and Gas Authority of India (GAIL) for laying a pipeline from Maharashtra to Bilaspur via Rajnandgaon with a view to provide cheaper gas as fuel to industrial as well as common households to solve the problem of fuel scarcity.

Hindustan Copper: Investing In Growth

Hindustan Copper, the country's largest state-owned copper company is planning to invest Rs 1856 crore in the Malanjkhand Copper project at Madhya Pradesh. An MoU was signed between K D Diwan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Hindustan Copper  (HCL), and Arun Kumar Bhatt, Managing Director, MP Trade & Investment Facilitation Corporation (TRIFAC), Government of Madhya Pradesh at the Global Investor Summit, 2012.

SAIL: Crowning Glory

Bhilai Steel Plant, the highest profit making unit of the public sector firm Steel Authority of India, has won the Greentech Environment Excellence Gold Award for 2012. The award was instituted by Greentech Foundation, New Delhi.

Coal India: High Energy

State-run firm Coal India has said that it would double its production capacity in Chhattisgarh to 220 million tonnes by 2017. The company has planned a capital expenditure of Rs 7500 crore on building three railway lines. CIL would spend an equal amount on new projects after the commissioning of these railway lines.
