Gujarat - Dazzling Development

How do you measure the progress of a state? I am sure many would say it is the GDP growth which defines the overall progress of a state. True; but that isn’t the only measure. There are many other factors which fall outside of economic jargon which actually underline the success of a state. This is particularly true of a diverse and fragmented nation like India where the overall progress camouflages the skewed nature of regional growth.

What better example can you get today, than Gujarat. This is one state which right now, one could say, is leading by example. There are some very basic factors at play which have led the state of Gujarat far surpassing other states in the progress game. Among the most important of these has been the able bodied leadership which has ensured good governance.

Leading From The Front

The real characteristic of a good leader lies in his ability to lead from the front. This is exactly the trait that has helped Narendra Modi win a third term as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. It has been the dynamism of this charismatic leader which has helped the State build confidence and grow steadily over the years. All this is aptly reflecting in the way the state has progressed over a period of time. in fact, there is probably no other state which can match up with the grit of the government in Gujarat to provide the best of the facilities and environments for business to grow. Reasons why you will find the biggest of the business conglomerates vying to set up their businesses there.[PAGE BREAK]

Projecting The Right Image Of A Vibrant Gujarat

Working hard towards progress in one thing and getting your hard work recognized is just another. Gujarat has been able to do both of these in the correct measures. This is one reason why the state has been able to attract huge investments – a prerequisite for good industrial growth, higher employment levels and decent per capita earnings. None of the other states has laid out a red carpet to investors and businesses (not just Indian but also international) inviting them to be a part of its growth like the way Gujarat has done.

The Vibrant Gujarat Summit held once in every two years has been a classic example of how best to do it. In fact it has been the biggest USP of the state over the years now. The figures speak for themselves.

Even a cursory look at the table alongside will tell you the importance of the event and the way it has helped the progress of the state. After it was first held in 2003 a total of 76 MoUs were signed aggregating to a total of USD 14 billion worth of investment in Gujarat. This number has only gone up with every passing year or rather two years. 2005 saw the state sign a total of 226 MoUs bringing in a total of USD 220 billion. From that number 2011 seems to be a huge leap ahead. 7936 MoUs which promised to bring in around USD 450 billion.

A Model To Follow

This makes Gujarat an ideal model to follow. In fact the ease of doing business comes from the will of the government to facilitate a better environment for those wanting to come to the state. Little wonder that the big business houses have preferred this state to many others who actually shunned them for reasons best known to all. Only if other states and leaderships were as active and open to a professional management, India would certainly be a different economic power today.
