Watch out for these penny stocks locked in the upper circuit on August 22
The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex plunged 639 points to trade at 59,006 levels at 10.51 am.
The major market indices experienced steep declines in the early trade, trading close to the day's low. The market breadth was weak as 1,074 shares increased and 2,103 shares decreased on BSE. Almost 180 shares remained unchanged in total. The shares of Greenlam Industries gained 2.15 per cent, following the company's announcement that its recently-purchased laminate manufacturing facility in Gujarat had started commercial production on August 20, 2022.
The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex plunged 639 points to trade at 59,006 levels at 10.51 am. S&P BSE Midcap index dropped to 24,635 level, down by 329 points. S&P BSE Smallcap index too decked 240 points to trade at 27,935 levels. Most of the sectors are trading in the red except FMCG, power, and utilities, which are trading with marginal gains.
Nifty index trades at 17,566 levels with a loss of 191 points. Likewise, Bank Nifty slipped 628 points to trade at 38,357 levels. The Top Gainers on Nifty are ITC (1.19 per cent), Britannia (1.06 per cent), Hindustan Unilever (0.71 per cent), Tata Consumer (0.65 per cent), and Nestle India (0.04 per cent).
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,110.90 crore on August 19 while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,633.21 crore.
