Nifty closes at 15,800; HDFC Life, ITC and Wipro emerge as top losers

Shree Cement, Power Grid Corporation, and Bajaj Finserv became the top gainers while HDFC Life, ITC & Wipro turned out to be the top losers.

Market update at 3.30 PM: Indices lost their early gains towards the end and Nifty fell about 30 points on a closing basis. Sensex lost 100 points while Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap also witnessed marginal losses.   

Among the sectors, media, financials, and IT emerged as the top draggers while energy & metals remained higher. Shree Cement, Power Grid Corporation, and Bajaj Finserv became the Top Gainers while HDFC Life, ITC & Wipro turned out to be the Top Losers.

 

Market update at 2.20 PM: Indices witnessed selling pressure at higher levels. Nifty slipped about 200 points from the day’s high and is trading flat. However, Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap are marginally higher.   

Media and IT are the top underperformers while metals & pharma inched higher.

 

Market update at 11.20 AM: Nifty has reclaimed the 16,000 level and has climbed about 0.98 per cent. Sensex gained over 520 points while Nifty Midcap & Nifty Smallcap have soared over 0.69 per cent and 1.08 per cent, respectively.  

All the sectors are trading in green whereas India VIX slipped over 2 per cent.   

The advance-decline ratio stands at 1,524:374, indicating a positive sentiment in the market.   

 

Market update at 9.30 AM: Indices have opened higher while Nifty climbed 0.53 per cent. Sensex has gained over 293 points while Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap have also inched higher.  

Among the sectors, metals and energy are trading higher while realty is down.  

Meanwhile, India VIX has slipped about a per cent.

 

Pre-market update: US markets were closed last night on the account of the US Independence Day. The global markets were relatively quiet while Asian markets opened mildly positive on July 5. Meanwhile, SGX Nifty indicates a higher opening of 15 points.  

In the last trading session, the FIIs sold to the tune of Rs 2,149 crore while the DIIs bought to the tune of Rs 1,688 crore.  

Brent crude oil prices have risen to USD 114 per barrel and are likely to remain volatile.  

Nifty is likely to open near 15,900 while the first hour of price action shall be keenly watched.
