At noon on Thursday, the core equity indices i.e., Sensex and Nifty 50 fell sharply as the global markets took a deep plunge after the earnings results of corporates like Target and Walmart failed to meet expectations by a large margin

At noon on Thursday, the core equity indices i.e., Sensex and Nifty 50 fell sharply as the global markets took a deep plunge after the earnings results of corporates like Target and Walmart failed to meet expectations by a large margin. The companies stated rising fuel prices and subdued consumer demand as reasons for the reduced profit margins. 

The US equity indices S&P 500 traded 4.04 per cent lower to 3,923.68 while Nasdaq Composite slipped 4.73 per cent to 11,418.15, which is the largest fall in the tech-heavy index since May 5. This is the deepest fall in the US indices since June 2020.  

The crude oil price was up by 0.32 per cent and was trading at $109.9 per barrel while the 10-year US Treasury bond yield was trading at 2.90 per cent.  

Sensex was at 52,981.18, down by 1,227.35 points or 2.26per cent while Nifty was at 15871.35, down by 368.95 points or 2.27 per cent from the last trading session.            

On BSE, 753 shares have advanced, 2,310 shares declined whereas 105 shares are unchanged.               

The Top Gainers in Nifty 50 pack are ITC and Eicher Motors. Meanwhile, the top five stocks pulling down the index are Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, and HDFC Life Insurance Company.  

  BSE Smallcap index is trading at 25,858.56, down by 2.07 per cent. The top gainers in the pack were UCAL Fuel Systems, JK Lakshmi Cements, CARE Ratings, Panacea Biotec, and Expleo Solutions. Each of these stocks has gained more than 7 per cent. Similarly, the Top Losers include Syncom Formulations, Manappuram Finance, Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, Gokaldas Exports, and Vadilal Industries.    

Almost all of the sectoral indices were trading in the red territory wherein, BSE IT was down by more than 4 per cent. Meanwhile, BSE Telecom, BSE Utilities, BSE Oil & Gas, BSE Power, and BSE Realty were down by more than 2 per cent each.
