The Nifty Pharmaceutical index has surged by an impressive 30 per cent on a year-to-date basis in 2023, significantly outperforming the Nifty 50 index. Against the backdrop of India experiencing a single-day spike of 628 new COVID-19 cases

On Wednesday, the Sensex gained by 346 points to close at 57,960.09, while the Nifty 50 surged by 129 points to close at 17,080.70

Benchmark indices registered a positive close on Thursday with Sensex gaining 500 points while Nifty advancing 124 points. 

BSE Smallcap index bucked the negative trend to outperform broader markets, climbing 1.07 per cent and ending the session at 25,916.41.

BSE Smallcap index registered losses of 0.40 per cent to close at 24,942.63.

BSE Smallcap index performed at par with broader markets, ending in the green territory at 25,621.57 with gains of 1.20 per cent.

The stocks, which are trading around 1-2 per cent of their previous month’s high, are likely to trend stronger in the short to medium term.  

BSE Smallcap index gained 0.78 per cent to close at 25,318.05. 

BSE Small-cap index outperformed broader markets, closing the session with gains of 0.27 per cent.

On Monday, the benchmark indices started the session on a bit higher note but ended deep in the red amid volatility. Sensex fell 571.44 points or 0.99 per cent at 57292.49 level, and the Nifty was down 69.40 points or 0.98 per cent down at 17117.60 level.

On Wednesday, Indian equity markets staged a healthy recovery from lower levels.
