Top foreign firms investing in construction sector of India

The burgeoning Indian economy stands out as one of the most lucrative and promising destinations for foreign investors and businesses

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) refers to investments made across borders by either companies or individuals from one country into another. The burgeoning Indian economy stands out as one of the most lucrative and promising destinations for foreign investors and businesses. This allure is largely attributed to the abundant opportunities for growth and development within the Indian market.

Notably, India allows for 100 per cent foreign direct investment in the construction industry, encompassing not only housing and commercial projects but also critical urban infrastructure such as urban transport, water supply, sewerage, and sewage treatment. Here are some companies that have played pivotal roles in shaping India's growth trajectory through FDI:

Ethos

Ethos AM, a US-based full-service Project Financing firm with a global reach, is the most recent entrant in the league of FDI contributors to India. Ethos is expected to focus on infrastructure, energy, agribusiness, manufacturing, textile, IT, and other attractive verticals with an aim to deploy over USD 1 billion in India over the next five years. Ethos, which is neither a fund nor a bank, has investments in 72 countries and represents the next generation of the global investing business. Ethos typically invests in high-level projects with long-term viability.

Hines

Hines is a privately held global real estate investment, development, and management firm with headquarters in 395 cities across 30 countries. It manages assets worth $95.79 billion and oversees over 96 million square feet of properties through third-party property-level services. With 203 ongoing projects worldwide and a track record of 1,610 developed, redeveloped, or purchased properties totaling over 537 million square feet, Hines is among the world's largest and most reputable real estate organizations. The company is committed to ESG principles and is expanding its presence in South India, particularly in Chennai and Hyderabad.

Veolia

Veolia in India plays a crucial role in providing high-quality drinking water and improving the living standards of residents in the areas where it operates. By collaborating with public authorities, Veolia ensures the benefits of FDI reach the people of India by managing various aspects of the water cycle, including water extraction, purification, and drinking water distribution. Veolia India has garnered recognition for its excellence in wastewater treatment and recycling, serving multiple applications, including irrigation and groundwater replenishment.

Trump Organization

The Trump Organization's presence in India is notably marked by the Trump Tower, a 140-unit ultra-luxury apartment complex in Kolkata, developed in collaboration with Unimark Group, RDB Group, and Tribeca Developers. India boasts the largest portfolio of Trump real estate projects outside of North America. While the Trump Organization does not have financial investments in the country, it earns royalties for associating its name with these developments. Donald Trump Jr. has shown keen interest in expanding these projects, considering India as the second-largest market for the Trump Organization outside of North America, with five commercial and residential projects currently underway.

Blackstone

Blackstone prioritizes investments in businesses poised to drive the future economy. As the world's largest alternative asset manager with USD 991 billion in Assets Under Management (AUM), Blackstone excels in investing in reliable firms that offer long-term value to institutional and individual investors alike. Their portfolio comprises over 230 enterprises and more than 12,000 real estate assets, strategically positioned in industries with substantial long-term growth potential. Blackstone aims to foster financial stability and robust businesses through a diverse range of capabilities.
