NLC India commences coal production

NLC India informed the bourses on April 26 that the company has commenced coal production at Talabira-II & II opencast coal mine in the state of Odisha, having a normative capacity of 20 MTPA. This marks the entry of the company into the coal mining sector of Odisha.

Last year, the company had said that it would invest more than Rs 17,000 crore for its thermal power projects and embarked on an afforestation programme inside and outside the coal mining area in Odisha.

The company added that the production of 20 million tonnes of coal per annum from Talabira II & III coal blocks is set to fuel its 4,200 MW thermal power projects in Odisha. For this purpose, the company was closely working with Odisha Forest department to make the unit a 'model coal mine' by planting more trees than mandated, under relevant policies.

NLC India Ltd is a ‘Navratna’ company of Government of India, working in the field of fossil fuel mining as well as for thermal power generation.

The stock of NLC India in today's trade was trading in a positive bias. The stock at 12.00 pm was trading at Rs 44.3 apiece, up by 1.8 per cent from its previous close.
