Hitachi ABB Power Grids procures order worth Rs 124 crore from BALCO

Hitachi ABB Power Grids, a pioneer in the field of technology and provider of various utility & infrastructure services announced on Wednesday that it has won an order worth Rs 124 crore from one of India’s top aluminium producers i.e., Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) to strengthen its power infrastructure at Korba Plant in Chhattisgarh.

The technology giant is going to deliver a fully-engineered 400-kilovolt gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substations that will replace an existing framework to assimilate power from BALCO’s captive generation plant in a better manner and deliver it with efficiency to Korba aluminum smelter.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids will equip the substations with its advanced MicroSCADA automation solution to monitor and control the aluminum producer’s grid in real-time and ensure maximum power availability. It will also deploy its industry-leading 500 megavolt ampere power transformers to further enhance grid safety and efficiency. The GIS substation will provide space savings of up to 60 per cent compared to conventional switchgear owing to its compact, robust and low maintenance design. The GIS technology can be safely operated in confined spaces for optimal substation layout and superior switchgear performance. This upgradation is being done keeping in mind the domestic consumption of aluminum, which is forecasted to rise to 10 million tons over a period of next 10 years for which reliable power supply is very important. All the types of equipment required for the project will be manufactured domestically, keeping in mind, the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

On Wednesday at 3:45 pm, the shares of Hitachi ABB Power Grid Ltd were trading at Rs 1,288.65, which was a decrease of 1.39 per cent over its previous close of Rs 1,306.75 on BSE.
