Indraprastha Gas Ltd signs MoU with South Delhi Municipal Corporation to establish waste to energy plant

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to establish a waste-to-energy plant in Delhi and convert Municipal Solid Waste into Compressed Biogas (CBG) which can be used as fuel for running vehicles.

The agreement was signed as a part of the extension of SATAT initiative of the government under a synchronization scheme. The Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) scheme envisages setting up 5,000 CBG plants by 2023-24 with a production target of 15 MMTPA. This will help to facilitate the creation of new employment opportunities and enhance farmer income. By using Municipal Solid Waste as input, this initiative not only reduces municipal waste but also sustainably produces clean energy.

As a part of the MoU, SDMC shall provide a designated area at the identified site in Hastsal in the West Zone to the company for setting up the Biogas plant and CBG Station. SDMC will also be providing an assured regular supply of segregated biodegradable waste to IGL for running the proposed CBG plant.

At 12:50 pm on Tuesday, the share price of the company was trading 0.31 per cent lower at Rs 523.55 on BSE.
