MF update: May 2021 AUM at Rs 33.05 lakh crore

The assets under management (AUM) of the domestic mutual fund industry have increased by 2.09 per cent on a monthly basis to Rs 33.05 lakh crore for the month of May 2021. The increase in AUM was driven by an increase in AUM of the equity dedicated and hybrid funds. For equity-oriented schemes, it has increased by a huge 7.07 per cent on MoM basis. The reason for such an increase in the AUM was a better mark to market gain.  

In the month of May 2021, Nifty 500 gained almost 7.6 per cent. All the categories of equity MF saw an inflow except for the ELSS. The inflow has increased to Rs 10,082.98 crore in the month of May 2021 compared to the inflow of Rs 3,737 crore in the month of April 2021. At the end of May 2021, the total AUM of equity-oriented funds stood at Rs 10.67 lakh crore compared to Rs 9.91 lakh crore at the end of April 2021.

Debt dedicated fund for the month of May 2021, saw net outflows to the tune of Rs 44,512 crore. Liquid funds and Overnight funds saw major net outflows in the month of May 2021 while low duration fund & money market funds saw major net inflows in the same month. 

Hybrid funds saw net inflows in the month of May 2021 to the tune of Rs 6,217 crore and within hybrid funds, it was Arbitrage Fund that saw a major inflow. Passively managed funds such as ETF and index funds continue seeing good traction and for the month of May 2021, it saw net inflows of Rs 5,079.74 crore.  

Inflows via SIP also for the month of May 2021 was Rs 8,818 crore as compared to Rs 8,596 crore for the month of April 2021.
