Sensex, Nifty continue to gain; Adani Group shares surge, Eveready Industries gains 7 per cent, Aarti Drugs tumbles
On Tuesday, the first full day trading session of the new year, Sensex gained by 314.73 points or 0.72 per cent to close at 43952.71 levels while Nifty rose by 93.95 points or 0.74 per cent to settle at 12874.20 levels.
Shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) gained after the company reported of being the lowest bidder for a Rs 3200 crore road bridge project over Brahmaputra river.
Eveready Industries reported string Q2FY21 results with a three-fold jump in its consolidated net profit for Q2FY21.
In global markets, Asian indices such as Shanghai index and KOSPI declined by 0.21 per cent and 0.15 per cent respectively whereas Hang Seng and Nikkei rose by 0.13 per cent and 0.42 per cent respectively. In European markets, FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 were trading down by 0.58 per cent, 0.10 per cent and 0.11 per cent respectively.
Sensex gainers included of Tata Steel gaining by 6.24 per cent, SBI rose by 4.59 per cent, HDFC Bank gained by 2.81 per cent, Bajaj Finance increased by 2.62 per cent, Axis Bank was up by 2.50 per cent, Larsen & Toubro gained by 2.09 per cent, etc.
Sensex losers made up of NTPC declining by 2.69 per cent, HCL Technologies fell by 1.87 per cent, ONGC decreased by 1.86 per cent, Infosys declined by 0.85 per cent, ITC decreased by 0.72 per cent, Power Grid fell by 0.66 per cent, etc.
Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Industrials was the biggest gainer up by 2.27 per cent followed by Metal index gaining by 2.11 per cent. Oil & Gas index fell by 1.08 per cent. Bankex closed up by 1.88 per cent whereas IT index fell by 0.50 per cent.
BSE SmallCap index rose by 0.88 per cent while BSE MidCap index surged by 1.08 per cent.
