Sensex, Nifty shine; Meghmani Organics gains 8 per cent, SBI zooms 6 per cent, SAIL jumps 10 per cent
On Thursday, Nifty ended at 12,120.30 levels, up by 1.78 per cent or Rs 211.80 while Sensex jumped by 724.02 points or 1.78 per cent to settle at 41,340.16 levels.
The domestic markets witnessed strong investor sentiments with a boost from strong global cues, increased foreign fund inflow, and a rally in IT & banking stocks as well as bluechip stocks.
The shares of SBI gained after the bank reported positive results for Q2FY21.
In the global markets, Shanghai index closed up by 1.30 per cent as investors remained hopeful that Joe Biden’s victory will lead to easing off trade tariff wars between the US and China. Hang Seng, Nikkei, and KOSPI rose by 3.25 per cent, 1.73 per cent, and 2.40 per cent, respectively.
In the European markets, FTSE 100, DAX, and CAC 40 were trading in the green, up by 0.57 per cent, 1.18 per cent, and 0.91 per cent, respectively.
Amid buying sentiments in the domestic markets, the Indian rupee ended 36 paise higher at 74.38 per dollar.
On Thursday, all stocks in the Sensex basket closed in green. Sensex gainers consisted of SBI that went up by 5.63 per cent, Tata Steel rose by 5.34 per cent, IndusInd Bank gained by 5.32 per cent, Bajaj Finance increased by 4.95 per cent, Bajaj Finserv jumped by 4.15 per cent, HCL Technologies gained by 3.46 per cent, Asian Paints rose by 3.19 per cent, Titan Company gained by 3.02 per cent, etc.
Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, the metal index was the biggest gainer, up by 4.43 per cent. BSE Oil & Gas index gained by 3.19 per cent, BSE Energy index was up by 2.39 per cent, BSE IT index gained by 1.34 per cent while BSE Bankex closed up by 2.14 per cent. BSE Realty index was the only index that declined amongst all sectoral indices on BSE on Thursday.
In the broader markets, BSE Mid-Cap index jumped by 1.74 per cent. The top index gainers consisted of SAIL, Sun TV Network, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Muthoot Finance, Zee Entertainment, etc.
Meanwhile, BSE Small-Cap index surged 1.70 per cent. The top index gainers include Apollo Micro Systems, HBL Power Systems, CESC Ventures, Jindal Poly Films, CARE Ratings, etc.
